Establishing a toolkit as a gift?

My boyfriend had expressed interest in getting a nice barn full of tools some day. He mentioned how much he wanted to do mechanical things and some woodworking. I know Craftsmen is expensive, but with the lifetime guarantee, i’m thinking maybe its the way to go. CConsidering that we typically only spend about $100 a year on each other… what are the most important, most useful tools that every man should have? i am a girl, so before you answer this, consider how thorough you’re going to have to be for me to figure out what you’r talking about. I’m thinking that for the next few years worth of holidays i’ll just buy him craftsmen tools. what sizes? english or metric? Please let me know what you think…. if you were a 23 year old male, would this be a good gift for you?

Smiles, what a sweetheart you are.

I just recently answered a similar Q.

Anyone, male or female who uses and enjoys tools, very often has specific dream ideas about what they might most want.

Sears/Craftsman does not offer lifetime on power tools, but has a great “serviceability” program in place even since being bought by K-mart. There are NO Lifetime promises on power tools anywhere on the planet.

Tools for my gender might be as personal as products sold for your gender, and my suggestion is this. BTW; I used to be 23,,,smile.

You seem to have a budget limit chosen already, and variances in that by a few dollars probably isn’t a major issue.

This need not be a “SURPRISE” quick open it, kind of thing. In fact; the fact that you’re this interested suggests to me, as I suggested a few days ago,,,GET INVOLVED in making this a shared experience.

Certainly we have faves, and other answers will say so, and that’s OK.

Take him to an HD/ Lowes/ Sears/ etc. KNOWING the budget, and let him choose; as you share in the experience. For $100 you might find; he can pick two; decent power tools, and whatever else he might want…plus or minus.

THEN, when he still has the glow, feels the testosterone or joy, take him to lunch, even if just for a Hot Dog. Expect a “Thank You” but don’t be offended if he hugs his gifts,,,smile.

It’s so much more about the TWO of you, and your allowing him some dream/paly time; than it is about warantees; brand names; colors of any tool.

Happy gifting, and holidays.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Along with stone, mud, and animal parts, wood was certainly one of the first materials worked by primitive human beings. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials. Among early finds of wooden tools are the worked sticks from Kalambo Falls, ClactononSea and Lehringen. The spears from Schningen provide some of the first examples of wooden hunting gear. Flint tools were used for carving. Since Neolithic times, carved wooden vessels are known, for example, from the Linear Pottery culture wells at Kckhofen and Eythra. Examples of Bronze Age woodcarving include tree trunks worked into coffins from northern Germany and Denmarkand wooden foldingchairs. The site of FellbachSchmieden in Germany has provided fine examples of wooden animal statues from the Iron Age. Wooden idols from the La Tne period are known from a sanctuary at the source of the Seine in France. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A Woodworking machine is a machine that is intended to process wood. These machines are usually powered by electric motors and are used extensively in woodworking. Sometimes grinding machines (for grinding woodworking tools) are also considered a part of woodworking machinery. These machines are used both in smallscale commercial production of timber products and by hobbyists. Most of these machines may be used on solid timber and on composite products. Machines can be divided into the bigger stationary machines where the machine remains stationary while the material is moved over the machine, and handheld power tools, where the tool is moved over the material.
