My laptop won’t connect to my wireless router?
I have an AT&T wireless DSL router. I have two WiFi enabled Compaq laptops. The router is transmitting and both laptops are detecting the wireless signal but cannot connect. I have no problem connecting via an Ethernet cable however. I also know that it is not my machine or the settings. I had no problem in my old house, and I am still able to access the free WiFi around town and at various coffee shops. I just cannot connect to this particular signal. I’ve called AT&T and they ran every diagnostic they know of but they are stumped by the problem. My apartment is built of bricks, but that shouldn’t have any effect on a wireless signal coming from inside the apartment, should it? My landlord has the same router in his traditional wood construction house next door and has no problems.What can I try?
I tried the first two solutions posted below at the very beginning of my hassles with no positive results.
Try lowering the security level on the router. If the security level is set to WPA, make it WEP, and then try to connect again.
