How hot would my wood stove have to get to melt?

I have an old double door wood stove that is metal. It is a beast, probably could hold 4-6 good size pieces of wood. My dad said filling it up may make it so hot it could actually melt the stove. Is this true?

The older wood stoves are especially sensitive to warping and popping welds. If it warps at all the doors will not close properly which can cause the fire to be even hotter. My stove is nearly 30 years old and has been used to heat my house almost 90% if that time. When I add too much wood too fast I can still smell the overheated metal before it gets red hot. That should tell you to reduce the air to the firebox. If it gets red at all cut the air off entirely until it cools down. You will learn over time the signals of your wood stove and how hot each type of wood burns. It is better to under heat the house than over heat the house.
