Hot water tank broke and flooded basement to 2″. How do we get rid of odor and protect against mold & mildew?
It’s a 40 year old cape with no drainage around perimeter, no sump hole for pump, no sink in basement. Concrete floor with vinyl and carpeted floor. We used sump pump and two wet/dry vacs to pump most of the water out of a ceiling high window. we’re using 2 dehumidifiers and several fans to try to get the rest out, but it’s already starting to smell. There are a couple of wood frame walls in the basement, and we’ve got most of the “stuff” out.

you need to buy this and BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!
this is a very nasty carcinogen but if you handlle it proper, it is the only way to deal with your problem.
add that pack to one quart of water in a spray bottle.
spray the area.
wait one day.
vac again.
this stuff will prevent the mildew & mold from coming back for years.
after everything is dry repaint and re-seal.
