Can I paint the wooden casing/surround of a Glow Worm Miami Fire?

I have spilt paint stripper on the wood effect casing of my old glow worm gas fire. This has caused the plastic wood veneer to bubble and exposed the chipboard underneath. We are moving soon so I don’t want to replace the fire. Can I paint the casing? Need to comply with corgi regs as could be an expensive sticking point with furture surveyors if I don’t.
FYI further to this I contacted Glow Worm and Corgi. Corgi said only the manufacturer could advise if this could be restored. Glow Worm said they could only advise to replace it, but they have nothing left to replace it with. Am currently in contact with a parts company to see if they have a suitable casing. So not much help really!! Thanks for the answers though.

You would be wise to check with the manufacturer before making any changes to any gas appliance.
